The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the arrested one Mika’ilu Abdulkarim 35, of Tsirma Village, Jigawa State, for allegedly defiling an 8-year-old girl, Hafsat Babagana, of Garin Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area.
A statement signed by Police Public Relations officer SP Dungus Abdulkarim,Which was made available to Newsman in Damaturu, suspect reportedly lured the minor, who is said to be of unsound mind, with a promise of ₦500, and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her at Garin Alkali Market.
According to the statement the police operatives from Garin Alkali Division swiftly arrested the suspect following a report by the victim’s father. Both suspect and victim were taken to the Specialist Hospital, Gashu’a, for medical examination.
The case has been transferred to the State CID, Damaturu, for further investigation, and the suspect will be charged to court thereafter.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado psc, fdc condemned the act and urged parents to remain vigilant while calling on communities to support efforts against sexual and gender-based violence.
