The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Imam of Yelwa, Gindin Akwati, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Plateau State and the nation at large.
In a condolence message issued on Wednesday, Governor Mutfwang said the late Imam was a man of rare purpose whose life was defined by an unwavering commitment to peace, unity and the protection of the most vulnerable, particularly women and children.
He noted that the cleric’s principled leadership and courage in promoting harmony and safeguarding lives earned him respect and recognition both nationally and internationally.
The governor described the demise of Imam Abubakar Abdullahi as a painful loss not only to his immediate family and the Yelwa, Gindin Akwati community, but also to Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and Plateau State as a whole.
He commended the late religious leader for his tireless advocacy for interfaith harmony, saying he consistently built bridges of forgiveness, compassion and empathy among diverse communities.
According to Governor Mutfwang, the revered Imam devoted his life to the advancement, development and well-being of his people, adding that his sudden death has created a significant vacuum in community leadership.
He prayed that God would raise leaders of integrity, wisdom and courage to sustain the legacy of peace and service exemplified by the late cleric.
The governor observed that the loss came at a time when Plateau State was in dire need of the Imam’s guidance, wisdom and unifying presence.
He urged the family and the wider community to draw comfort from the fact that the late Imam lived a life anchored on faith, compassion and fairness, leaving behind an enduring legacy of service and peaceful coexistence.
On behalf of his family, the Plateau State Government and the people of the state, Governor Mutfwang extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and all those mourning the loss, praying that Almighty God grants them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and grants the soul of the departed eternal rest.
