The Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace, security and inclusive development in the state, as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, paid him a courtesy visit in Jos.
Receiving the Army Chief at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Governor Mutfwang described the visit as timely and reassuring, particularly against the backdrop of ongoing security efforts on the Plateau and across the country.

He commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their resilience, professionalism and sacrifices in addressing complex security challenges despite stretched personnel and resources.
The governor noted that Plateau State recorded one of its most peaceful Christmas and New Year festivities in recent years, despite earlier intelligence reports that had raised concerns ahead of the 2025 celebrations.

He attributed the relative calm to the vigilance, discipline and gallantry of officers and men of the Nigerian Army, who remained on active duty while citizens celebrated with their families.
Reflecting on the recent Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Mutfwang paid tribute to fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in defence of the nation.
He assured that beyond words and prayers, his administration remained committed to supporting the families of both fallen and serving security personnel.

While acknowledging that security challenges persist in parts of the state, the governor stressed the need to complement ongoing kinetic operations with non-kinetic approaches, including community engagement and confidence-building measures.
He reiterated that insurgents and terrorists remained enemies of the state who must be decisively confronted to safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Governor Mutfwang expressed confidence in the loyalty and professionalism of the Nigerian Army and assured the COAS of the state government’s continued support.
He also appealed for sustained military presence to consolidate the gains recorded so far, describing Plateau State as a hospitable and welcoming home for all who serve the nation.
Earlier, Lieutenant General Shaibu said the visit formed part of his official working tour of military formations across the country.
He commended the Plateau State Government for its consistent support and cooperation with the Nigerian Army, particularly the 3 Armoured Division, noting that the synergy had significantly contributed to improved security outcomes.
The Army Chief expressed optimism that the security challenges confronting Plauteau State were surmountable, assuring the governor of the Nigerian Army’s continued collaboration with the state government to protect lives and property. He emphasised that peace and stability in the state remained a shared responsibility achievable through sustained partnership.

The visit also included an official engagement with the Headquarters of the 3 Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army, based in Jos.
