The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, in collaboration with Green Climate Support (GCS), has trained 100 pilot public schools in Gombe State on environmental sustainability and climate change resilience.

The training, which is part of efforts to establish Eco Cubs across public schools in the state, centered on reforestation, afforestation, and raising students’ awareness on the dangers of climate change.
Speaking at the event, the AGILE State Project Coordinator, Dr. Amina Haruna Abdul, represented by her deputy, Hajiya Aishatu Sambo, said the initiative aims to instill in young people a sense of responsibility towards safeguarding the environment.
She urged students and their environmental mentors to embrace tree planting, stressing that the practice goes beyond beautification to protecting communities from the adverse effects of climate change.
The founder of Green Climate Support (GCS), Muazzam Ibrahim, commended the AGILE team for fostering partnerships and for involving his organization in addressing environmental challenges in the state.
Also speaking, the AGILE Project’s Environmental Lead in Gombe, Jabiru Sale Kilawa, described the training as a core strategy for project implementation.
He disclosed that schools received seedlings, water tanks, plant protectors, and watering cans as incentives, urging them to nurture the seedlings to maturity and establish Eco gardens in their schools.
The training was conducted simultaneously at three designated centers: Government Girls Mega College, Doma; Government Girls Secondary School, Kaltungo; and Government Mega Science Secondary School, Gombe.
