President Tinubu Pledges Support for UNESCO Geoscience, Geoparks Programme

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to harnessing Nigeria’s vast geo-heritage sites for socio-economic development.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave the assurance when he received a delegation from the UNESCO International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme (IGGP) Nigeria National Committee (NNC), led by its Chairman, Dr. Aminu Abdullahi Isyaku, during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa.

In his remarks, President Tinubu affirmed that his administration is determined to change the narrative across all sectors of national life, including social, economic, cultural, sports, agriculture, education, and international diplomacy.
He emphasized that the doors of the Federal Government remain open for collaboration with critical stakeholders, particularly state governments, in order to unlock the untapped potential of Nigeria’s geological endowments.
“The socio-economic value of our geo-heritage is enormous, and we must work together to position Nigeria as a key player in global geoscience and geoparks development,” the President said.

Dr. Isyaku, who led the delegation, commended the administration’s policy direction and pledged UNESCO’s continued partnership in promoting Nigeria’s rich geo-heritage for education, tourism, and sustainable development.
