The Emir of Gwandu and Chairman, Kebbi State Council of Traditional Rulers, Maj.-Gen. Iliyasu Bashir (rtd.), has called on Nigerians to offer prayers for their leaders instead of resorting to curses or insults.
The monarch made the appeal on Friday when Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, paid him a condolence visit following the death of his sister, Hajiya Maina Haruna Rasheed, who passed away in Birnin Kebbi after a protracted illness.
Describing the growing culture of insulting leaders as dangerous, the Emir warned that no society could make meaningful progress where its citizens constantly demean those in authority. He emphasized the importance of promoting peace, unity, and mutual respect to ensure national development.
While mourning his late sister, alongside the recent loss of the Emir of Zuru and former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Emir prayed Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Aljannatul Firdaus.
In his remarks, Governor Idris expressed gratitude for the Emir’s fatherly guidance and support, stressing that his visit was to sympathize with the Royal Father over the loss. He described the deceased as a motherly figure and mentor whose counsel positively impacted many lives.
The governor also prayed Allah to grant her eternal rest and comfort the bereaved family.
