Governors of the six North Eastern states have resolved to deepen cooperation in tackling insurgency, food insecurity, energy poverty and infrastructural decay across the subregion.

Rising from their 12th meeting in Jalingo, Taraba State, the North East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) issued a strong communiqué reaffirming their commitment to regional integration and collective action.
While acknowledging “appreciable success” in the fight against insurgency, the governors lamented the continuing humanitarian and infrastructural challenges and urged urgent intervention by the Federal Government and the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
On climate concerns, the Forum warned of looming flood disasters as predicted by credible agencies and called for proactive measures, mass sensitization of residents in flood plains, and immediate reconstruction of flood-damaged infrastructure.

Worried about the soaring cost of agricultural inputs, the Forum cautioned of possible food shortages in 2026 and demanded subsidies for farmers alongside preparations for large-scale dry season farming.
To boost regional trade, the governors announced that the North East Trade Fair would be held in Maiduguri, Borno State, in December 2025, in partnership with NECCIMA.

The Forum also recommitted to tackling energy poverty through a subregional Power Masterplan, prioritizing solar energy as a “low-hanging fruit.”
In education, the governors congratulated the University of Maiduguri on its golden jubilee and pledged full support for its anniversary celebration and Endowment Fund relaunch in November 2025.
The next meeting of the Forum will hold in Maiduguri from December 12–14, 2025.
