Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has dissolved the State Executive Council, relieving all commissioners of their duties while retaining key principal officers.

The dissolution, announced on Monday in Minna, affects members of the cabinet including commissioners and special advisers. However, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff (CoS), Deputy Chief of Staff (DCoS), and other principal officers were exempted and will continue in their roles.
The governor, who assumed office in May 2023, said the decision was part of ongoing efforts to reposition his administration for greater efficiency and improved service delivery to the people of Niger State.
Governor Bago commended the outgoing commissioners for their contributions to the government and urged them to remain committed to the development of the state in their future endeavours.
No timeline was given for the appointment of new commissioners, but government sources hinted that a fresh list of nominees will soon be forwarded to the Niger State House of Assembly for confirmation.
