The House of Representatives has confirmed the discovery of a dead body near the National Assembly complex in Abuja, sparking concern within the legislative seat of power.
Spokesperson of the House, Hon. Akin Rotimi, in a statement yesterday, said the clarification became necessary to keep the public properly informed and to dispel speculation surrounding the incident.
According to him, the official police report indicated that the deceased, believed to be a labourer at a construction site within the complex, was found on Sunday, September 7, 2025, inside a red Peugeot 406 vehicle (Registration No. BWR-577 BF). The car was parked outside the Annex Building Gate, close to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
“The body, discovered in a sleeping position on the back seat, was already in an advanced state of decomposition,” Rotimi disclosed, quoting the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), National Assembly Division.
He added that the remains had been evacuated to the mortuary, while efforts were ongoing to confirm the deceased’s identity and reach his family.
Rotimi assured that the National Assembly was working closely with relevant security and emergency agencies to ensure a thorough investigation.
While commending the swift response of the police, the House expressed sympathy to the family and associates of the deceased, pledging transparent updates as the probe progresses.
