Yobe state Governor, Hon (Dr) Mai Mala Buni has reiterated government redness to support the national drug law enforcement agency NDLEA in combating trafficking and abuse of illicit drug in yobe state.
The Governor gave the assurance on Tuesday at a ceremony where large quantity of illicit drugs impounded by the agency was burnt, the occasion took place at kasaisa village near Gujba Maiduguri new bypass.
The Governor was represented by his Deputy Hon Idi barde Gubana ( Wazirin Fune) according to the Governor, the event underscores the unwavering commitment of the NDLEA to protecting the society, especially youth from the devastating effects of drugs abuse.
He noted that government has made several efforts to fight against drug abuse and other substance in the state so as to build a drug- free society in all the 17 local government areas in the state.
According to him drug use and abuse is a significant factor to the ongoing in- security situation which has displaced thousands of people leading to the problems of IDPs which further compounded the problem, as many criminal activities occur under the influence of hard drugs.
The Governor commended the ministry of religious affairs ethical re-orientaion as well as HISBA commission for their effort in educating the public on the dangers of drug abuse within the community to the barest minimum considering the alarming rate at which the society has degenerated in terms of drug abuse in recent years.
In his key note address, the chief executive officer of the National drug law enforcement agency NDLEA, Brigadier General Muhammad Buba Marwa( Rtd) represented by the Director operations and General investigation, DCGN Ahmad Suleiman Ningi, said the event is not only a statutory requirement, it is also a public demonstration of accountability, transparency and victory over criminal enterprises.
He noted the agency will not rest on its oars but will continue to explore all revenues within the ambit of law to rid the country of the menace of hard drugs.
Also speaking the state commandant NDLEA, CM Abdulazeez Kayode Ogunboye, expressed gratitude to the state government for the unwavering support, especially for the recent donation of patrol vehicle .
