Detectives of the Kebbi State Police Command have arrested six suspects in connection with the theft of gold jewellery valued at over ₦109.5 million in Ka’oje town, Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, on September 4, 2025, involved the theft of five gold necklaces, nine gold bangles, and four gold rings weighing a cumulative 782.7 grams, belonging to Hajiya Amina Hassan Bello and her siblings.
Following swift investigation, the police apprehended Ibrahim Abubakar Ka’oje, an officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, who confessed to the crime and implicated other accomplices. Among those arrested were Sa’adu Ibrahim Darhami and Hamza Ahmad, both from Sokoto State; Nasiru Sani of Birnin Kebbi; and Tasi’u Umar of Zauro town. Another suspect, Ibrahim Usman Oroji, was alleged to have aided in disposing some of the stolen items and pocketed ₦2.5 million from the proceeds.
Further findings revealed that part of the loot was laundered through the purchase of two plots of land in Birnin Kebbi metropolis, with the help of one Mustapha Hassan and others still at large.
Recovered exhibits so far include two gold bangles, an iPhone 16, a Samsung Galaxy Ultra, a Samsung Flip, and a Haojue motorcycle.
Commending the breakthrough, Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, lauded the professionalism and intelligence-driven efforts of the SCID team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police. He urged the officers to sustain the momentum, track down fleeing suspects, and recover the remaining stolen property.
