Former Zamfara Central Senator, Kabiru Garba Marafa, who served as the Zamfara State Coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organisation during the 2023 Presidential Election, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside his political structure across the state.

Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central in the Senate between 2011 and 2019, said his decision followed President Bola Tinubu’s “use-and-dump” style of leadership and the alleged marginalisation of Zamfara State under the present administration.
The development came after a two-day meeting of the Senator Kabiru Marafa Consultative Forum held in Kaduna on August 27–28, 2025, where supporters from all 14 local government areas of Zamfara deliberated on the worsening insecurity and political situation in the state.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by its chairman, Comrade Bashir Muhammad Mafara, and secretary, Dr. Mannir Bature Tsafe, the group recalled that under Marafa’s coordination, President Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election in Zamfara without visiting the state. Despite this, he said, Zamfara has continued to suffer neglect in federal appointments and interventions.
The Forum lamented the growing wave of insecurity, noting that Zamfara recorded 1,203 out of 4,722 nationwide abductions in 2024.
It also condemned the alleged use of security forces to secure electoral victory for the APC in the Kaura Namoda bye-election while failing to protect lives in communities under bandit attacks.
On political patronage, the group expressed dismay that Zamfara received only a Minister of State slot, while other North-West states got two substantive ministerial appointments.
It alleged that states where President Tinubu lost the election, especially Lagos, enjoyed greater federal attention.
After what it described as “exhaustive consultations and a critical review of prevailing circumstances,” the Forum declared that Marafa’s political structure across all 147 wards of Zamfara had resigned from the APC.
It added that their next political direction would soon be made public, guided by the interest of the people of the State.
