Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, on Monday inaugurated the second Governing Council of the Borno State University (BOSU), with renowned businessman and education philanthropist, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, returning as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council.

The ceremony, held at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Maiduguri, marked another milestone in the administration’s drive to strengthen higher education in the state.
Governor Zulum described the Governing Council as the legal custodian of the university’s future, entrusted with charting its strategic direction, maintaining high academic standards, and safeguarding the welfare of staff and students.
He congratulated the new members of the council, noting that their appointment was based on integrity, experience, and passion for education and community development.

“BOSU has grown remarkably from just 300 students at inception to over 10,000 today.
This progress would not have been possible without the strong support of the council and management.
Yet, challenges remain, and I urge you to promote research, innovation, and a curriculum tailored to post-insurgency recovery and sustainable development,” Zulum stated.
The governor further tasked the council to manage resources transparently, strengthen partnerships with industries and global academic institutions, and maintain a conducive learning environment.
He reminded the gathering that the state is currently investing in 136 educational institutions across Borno.
On behalf of the government and people of Borno, Zulum commended Professor Emeritus Abubakar Mustapha and Professor Shettima Umara Bulakarima for their notable contributions to the growth of the institution.
In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Indimi pledged that the new council would justify the confidence reposed in it.
“In sha Allah, you will see changes in two years,” the business mogul assured.
Other members of the council include Vice Chancellor Prof. Babagana Gutti, DVC Central Administration Prof. Shettima Mustapha Bulama, DVC Academics Prof. Shuaibu Garba Ngulde, and the Registrar, Mrs. Jallaba M. Sheikh.
Also appointed are Prof. Emeritus Abubakar Mustapha (Borno Central), Prof. Shettima Umara Bulakarima (Borno North), Prof. Suleiman Bello (Borno South), Prof. Matawali Aja Gana Gaidam, Barr. Dr. Yahaya Alh Dunoma, Dr. Mohammed Kolo, Dr. Esther Villey (Senate representatives), Dr. Wakil Mala Bukar and Muhammad Adam (Congregation representatives), Abubakar Bilal Ngoma (Convocation representative), and Hajja Yagana Kyari (Ministry of Education representative).
