Nigeria In a groundbreaking move to ease the burden of diabetes management, the Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a landmark agreement with Shanghai Haiqi Industrial Company of China to locally manufacture insulin, ending decades of heavy reliance on costly imports.

The agreement, sealed through the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology and its research agency, the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABRDA) is expected to make insulin cheaper, more accessible, and consistently available for patients across the country.
Officials say the partnership will not only guarantee a stable supply of life-saving medication but also foster technology transfer, create jobs, and strengthen Nigeria’s biotechnology sector.
For years, many Nigerians living with diabetes struggled with soaring costs and erratic imports of insulin. But under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda
