The Kebbi State Government has distributed free drugs to no fewer than 27,000 mentally ill patients across its 21 Local Government Areas, with Governor Nasir Idris approving over N90 million and additional support funds for the continuity of treatment.

The Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaji Zayyanu Umar-Aliero, disclosed this at the Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua General Hospital, Zauro, during the monthly outreach programme for this month.

He noted that patients present at the outreach received free drugs immediately, while the government has also continued with free feeding and transportation support for patients from across the state.

“The governor has directed my ministry to ensure uninterrupted treatment for psychiatric patients monthly, with both drugs and welfare support in place,” Umar-Aliero said.

The commissioner advised parents and guardians to adhere strictly to medical prescriptions and warned against selling the drugs for personal benefit.
