Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed has expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in Kebbi State, where persistent attacks by bandits, cattle rustlers, kidnappers, and other criminal elements have continued to disrupt farming and livelihoods, forcing residents to flee their communities.
Speaking during plenary at the National Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim lamented that the growing wave of violence has crippled economic activities and posed a major threat to the state’s agrarian economy.
To tackle the crisis, the lawmaker presented a motion titled “Need to Strengthen Security Infrastructure in Rural Communities of Kebbi State and Other Parts of the Country.”
The motion, which received wide support from members of the House, urged the Federal Government to take immediate steps toward improving rural security through the following measures:
- The Federal Ministry of Interior and the Nigeria Police Force should establish and adequately equip police outposts in rural flashpoints across the country.
- The Ministry of Police Affairs and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) should deploy personnel, mobility assets, surveillance equipment, and communication tools to strengthen rural patrols.
- The Federal Ministry of Finance should prioritize funding for rural security infrastructure in the 2026 national budget.
- State governments, traditional institutions, and community based organizations should partner with security agencies in intelligence gathering and peacebuilding efforts.
- The Committees on National Security, Police Affairs, and Army should conduct assessments of existing security gaps and recommend appropriate policy and budgetary interventions.
Hon. Ibrahim emphasized that the motion was not only about restoring peace but also about ensuring that rural communities the backbone of Nigeria’s agricultural and food security are adequately protected to continue their vital contributions to national development.
He called for collective action from all levels of government and stakeholders to end the cycle of violence and rebuild confidence among rural dwellers who have been severely affected by insecurity.
