Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, met with Muslim leaders in the state as part of efforts to deepen collaboration, promote peaceful coexistence and accelerate socio-economic development across Plateau.
The strategic engagement, held at Crispan Suites and Event Centre, Jos, provided a platform for frank and constructive dialogue on issues bordering on unity, mutual respect, security and inclusive governance, with stakeholders underscoring the need for sustained interfaith harmony in the state.

Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive and participatory governance, stressing that peace and development could only be achieved through constant engagement with religious, traditional and community leaders.

He noted that his government remains focused on building trust, strengthening social cohesion and ensuring that all segments of society feel a sense of belonging.

The governor also briefed the Muslim leaders on his recent decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), explaining that the move followed extensive consultations and was aimed at fostering political harmony and positioning Plateau State to attract greater dividends of democracy from the centre ahead of the 2027 elections.
He described the decision as the birth of a new political movement anchored on the collective aspirations of the Plateau people within the APC and appealed for the support of Muslim leaders and the wider citizenry.

In his response, the Emir of Wase and Chairman of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Plateau State chapter, Alhaji Muhammad Sambo Haruna, commended the governor for convening the meeting, describing it as a timely and significant step toward strengthening unity and religious harmony.
He praised the administration’s peace-building efforts and ongoing developmental projects across the state.

The emir called for justice, fairness and mutual respect among all citizens, and assured the governor of the continued support of Muslim leaders in promoting peaceful coexistence, infrastructural development and political stability in Plateau State.
Also speaking, the National Chairman of the Council of Ulama Jama’atu
Izalatul Bid’ah, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir; the National Secretary of JNI and Imam at the National Mosque, Prof. Khalid Aliyu Abubakar; and a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and member representing Wase Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, applauded Governor Mutfwang for creating the avenue for engagement.
They expressed satisfaction with developments in the state and pledged their support for the administration’s drive toward sustainable peace, growth and development.
