The National Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has called for responsible and gender-sensitive media reporting as a vital tool in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.
She made the call in Maiduguri on September 17 while serving as Special Guest of Honour at the third-quarter Media Stakeholders’ Seminar themed Consolidating Media Military Synergy for Sustainable Peace in Nigeria organized by the Defence Headquarters.

In her address, the NAWOJ leader commended government efforts to restore peace across the country but urged for greater support to security agencies through modern surveillance technology and essential tools.
“While we commend government’s efforts in fighting insecurity, we advocate for equipping security agencies with the necessary tools and surveillance technology,” she said.
She stressed that journalists must balance their duty to inform with the imperative of safeguarding national security and public safety, adding that reportage should highlight the disproportionate impact of insecurity on women and children.
“NAWOJ emphasizes the importance of responsible reporting on security issues, prioritizing national security and public safety. We also call for gender-sensitive reporting in political equations and balanced narratives to address the impact of insecurity on women and children,” she added.
The seminar brought together senior military officers, media executives, and civil society stakeholders to strengthen collaboration for sustainable peace across Nigeria.
