
The University of Maiduguri has announced the historic promotion of Dr. Halima Idrisa Gambo to the rank of Professor, following approval by the University’s Governing Council.
According to the statement made available to AljazirahNigeria, University said this landmark achievement makes her the first female Professor of Veterinary Pathology in Nigeria, a groundbreaking milestone in both the nation’s academic and veterinary history.
Professor Gambo has devoted over 20 years to teaching, research, mentorship, and community service. She began her academic career in 2004 as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Maiduguri and has steadily risen through the ranks to become a distinguished leader in her field.

National Vice President, Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), Chairperson, Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Borno State Chapter and Deputy Director, University of Maiduguri Business School (UMBS).
Her promotion is widely celebrated as a trailblazing accomplishment, inspiring young women and professionals across Nigeria to pursue excellence in academia and veterinary medicine.
Professor Halima was hailing from Potiskum town, Yobe State, Gambo’s success is not only a personal victory but also a shining moment for Northern Nigeria and the entire nation.
